Andrew Mellon [Andrew Mellon]
(1855–1937) a rich US ↑businessman who also served in the US government. He gave large amounts of money to help charities, museums, etc. He was Secretary of the Treasury (1921–31) and then US Ambassador to Britain (1932–3). In 1937 he gave his large art collection to establish the ↑National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
